FIRESTONE POLICE DEPARTMENT & MUNICIPAL COURT

HTML Document

“Roth Sheppard Architects worked closely with the members of the department to determine current and future needs, as well as potential growth and development. Without this critical step, we never would have ended up with the department we desperately needed. I truly appreciate RSA’s willingness to listen to what we were saying.”

—David Montgomery, former Firestone Chief of Police

The Police Department in Firestone, Colorado had for many years operated out of a physically deficient facility, compromising both officer/staff safety and operational efficiencies. The Town of Firestone requested Roth Sheppard’s services in their efforts to plan and design a new facility that would house the police department and municipal court.

The roof line of the building reaches out towards the entry of the site, a gesture to welcome the Town’s citizens. Beneath this triangular overhang sits a covered outdoor plaza, designed to encourage public gathering. The completed building has become an anchor within the community and the Town’s master planned Central Park.

The primary police component of the facility includes administration, 24-hour patrol services, investigations department, forensics lab booking/holding spaces, and storage and evidence. The public lobby provides a bright, welcoming space for visitors to the building. The reception desk, protected by ballistic glazing, overlooks this public space, and has easy line-of-sight to the front entry and parking area beyond.

Additionally, the Community Room, which doubles as a police training room with secured access, provides ample meeting space for the police department and community organizations. The court component consists of a Courtroom that can also function as the Town Board Room. This portion of the facility also includes judge’s chambers, prosecutor/district attorney offices, a conference room/jury room, and a secure restroom.
