Windsor Police Station
- Windsor, CO
Located
in a rural northern Colorado community, the Windsor Police Department was
presented a unique opportunity to build a new facility that would reflect their
progressive policing philosophy. With an emphasis on programmatic
efficiencies and flexible growth, the primary goal of this project was to
create a socially-integrated facility that encourages interaction within the
department as well as with the community.
Replacing existing police operations originally located in the basement of the
community's Town Hall, the new 15,000 square foot Windsor Police Department
facility is sited adjacent to the existing community recreation center. Roth
Sheppard Architects was hired to help design an iconic building, define a new
civic plaza and renew a sense of community for the town. The building’s two
primary masses intersect to form a 'social hub' where interaction among police
personnel is encouraged. The central corridor organizes internal operations
along the 'Police Street,' and at the building's public entrance, this
award-winning modernist building opens up to the town’s main street as a
welcoming gesture to the community.
