This remodel and addition to an existing, circa 1970’s, 2-story office building creates street level retail and a private back entry lobby for the second floor office tenants. The original brick building was ‘U’ shaped with a center open air courtyard. The developers desire to maximize S.F. was solved by filling in this courtyard and creating a 2-story entry lobby at the back of the building. New exit stairs and an elevator were added to meet egress code and ADA requirements. The new exterior exit stair was clad in wire mesh and precast concrete panels creating a dialogue with the store front façade and adjacent buildings. This stair also helped to screen the rear parking area from the side street, while defining the office entry.
