JEFFREY L. SHEPPARD AIA TO SPEAK AT THE AMERICAN
INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS' 2012 NATIONAL CONVENTION AND DESIGN EXPOSITION
Chosen from a record number of submittals, co-founder and design principal
of Denver-based Roth Sheppard Architects is scheduled to present to attendees
from around the world in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, May 17th
DENVER, Colorado—November 9, 2011—Roth Sheppard Architects, the Denver-based
award-winning AIA-Denver and AIA-Colorado '2010 Firm of the Year' known for
designing some of Colorado's most popular restaurants, fast-casual eateries and
retail spaces, as well as many of the most progressive law enforcement and
municipal facilities across the West, today announced that Principal Jeffrey L.
Sheppard has been selected to present at the American Institute of Architects'
[AIA] 2012 National Convention and Design Exposition.
Sheppard received the news on October 31st and is scheduled to speak on
Thursday, May 17th from 4-5:30pm in Washington, D.C. at the Walter E.
Washington Convention Center. His 90-minute presentation, "A Paradigm
for Connection: Design Excellence Through the Integration of Practice, Process,
People and Community," will focus on Roth Sheppard's story—a firm that
has dared to challenge the prevailing practice paradigm in downtown Denver,
Colorado by demonstrating a rigorous focus on new thinking about connection,
outreach and synergy. As a result of his presentation, participants will have
the opportunity to reconsider the architectural practice and design's place in
the broader world.
Sheppard will also address innovative ways of
connecting with clients, staff, and the physical environment and consider how
the actual process of making architecture—and the public's understanding and
perception of that process—can be integrated in a way that connects the inner
experience to the public outside.
"This is a huge honor; I look forward to
sharing what we've learned at Roth Sheppard with my international peers,"
Sheppard shares. "My presentation will challenge traditional boundaries
between ideation and design development, principals and staff, transparency and
confidentiality, architect and client, public and private and examine the notion
of connectivity and separation as constructs for how architects approach
design. I also plan to explore how our firm has catalyzed greater integration
and connection between the actual practice of architecture and the process of
mentoring architects—and how architects can invent new ways to positively
impact the public's perceptions of the profession through out-of-the-box
thinking. "
Sheppard will also look at how to develop
greater connection and synergy through innovating design solutions as
demonstrated through the examination of a number of AIA award-winning projects.
He hopes that participants will learn how a small practice with a vision has
emerged as a design leader that has not only survived, but thrived during a
highly challenging time. Please see more about Jeffrey Sheppard and his firm at
