WHATS NEW
- ROTH + SHEPPARD WINS TWO NATIONAL RESTAURANT DESIGN AWARDS
- July 04, 2010
Modmarket—Roth + Sheppard
Architect’s hip new ultra modern restaurant design located at 1600 28th Street
in Boulder—just won the top national 2010 Restaurant Design Award in the Café
Category. Jeff Sheppard accepted this prestigious award in Los Angeles on June
25th.
This important annual competition, sponsored by the American Institute of
Architects’ Los Angeles Chapter and Dwell magazine, recognizes the best new
restaurant designs in the United States. After narrowing down more than
100 entries to a total of 12 restaurants in three categories, the public across
the U.S. was asked to vote for their favorite design.
When the voting was tallied on June 22nd, the jury announced that Modmarket
not only won the People’s Choice Award, it won the Jury Award in
its category as well, taking home two of only six ‘best of’ awards given out in
2010! Even more exciting was the fact that Roth + Sheppard/Modmarket was the
only firm/restaurant outside of California or New York to be selected to
participate in this competition, as well as the only firm/design to win not one
award, but two!
Judges commented that they were especially impressed with the design’s
simplicity and economy of moves to achieve such a dramatic space, the positive
impact the subtle insertions of wood and organic form had on the minimalist
space, and how these moves made an abstract connection to the menu concept
(local, organic, fresh, healthy, etc.) using everyday materials in creative and
unexpected ways.
A huge thank you to all of you who voted—we could not have experienced this
level of national recognition without you!
