ROTH + SHEPPARD ARCHITECTS EXPANDS U.S. LAW ENFORCEMENT PRACTICE INTO CANADA WITH MAJOR NEW PROJECT FOR ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE [RCMP]

Downtown Denver design firm Roth + Sheppard Architects, Los Angeles-based AECOM and Vancouver-based Kasian announce groundbreaking of Massive Royal Canadian Mounted Police Headquarters in Surrey, British Columbia

DENVER, Colorado—June 10, 2010—Roth + Sheppard Architects, a leading Denver-based architectural firm known for its public safety, restaurant, retail and entertainment design throughout the West, today announced the firm's first international law enforcement project.

Construction of the huge new 76,162 square meter CD$966 million RCMP headquarters began Friday, May 8th with a groundbreaking ceremony at the Green Timbers site in the 14200 block of 96th Avenue in Surrey, British Columbia. Scheduled for completion in December 2012, the expansive new headquarters will house more than 2,700 RCMP E-Division headquarters personnel.

Designed to streamline the consolidation of an aging, overcrowded existing facility in Vancouver and 25 other leased and crown-owned sites throughout B.C.'s Lower Mainland, this critical project will include a 65,680 square meter [706,974 sq ft] administrations and operations tower, a 6,863 square meter [73,873 sq ft] high bay/exhibit building, and a 2,899 square meter [31,205 sq ft] post disaster building.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Kasian and AECOM as the architectural team selected to design British Columbia's new E-Division RCMP headquarters facility," states Herbert B. Roth, FAIA, co-founder and principal of Roth + Sheppard Architects. "This unique project takes our seasoned practice beyond United States borders, giving us an opportunity to share our extensive experience as planners and designers of functional, yet elegant public safety facilities with other law enforcement leaders around the world."

The project, funded via a private-public partnership [P3] between the Canadian Federal Government and Green Timbers Accommodation Partners, will create an estimated 900 new jobs. Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, states that this new headquarters will provide B.C.'s police personnel with the tools they need to do their job and enhance the RCMP's ability to provide greater effectiveness when it comes to enforcing the law, preventing crime and protecting Canadians.
